In 1840 Lyonshall boasted seven pubs: now only The Royal George remains.

Built in 1600 just one storey high it was called The George Inn, until the major naval disaster in 1782 when the flagship The Royal George sank at Spithead with the loss of 900 lives: the pub was then renamed The Royal George Inn.

Additions to extend the pub have been carried out over the years; in the 30's the kitchen was a cider mill, and four acres of orchard behind the pub supplied the fruit for the cider.

The Royal George is a village pub at the heart of the community and with community interests at heart. Our intention is for The George to be a source of pride for the villagers. It has a welcoming atmosphere, fine selection of well kept cask ales, carefully selected wines and good home cooked food in the restaurant, purchased from local producers.

The Royal George is open daily from 12pm - 3pm and 6pm - 11pm.

Meals are served in the restaurant from Tuesday to Sunday between 12pm - 3pm and 6pm - 9.30pm (meals are not available on Mondays).
